Calling All Girls in Grades 4 - 8
West Ridge invites all girls in grades 4 - 8 to join us for Uniquely Me! workshop series. Girls will participate in healthy living and team building activities. They will engage in games, role playing, participate in fun fitness exercises, complete a service project and much more!
Family Science Night: West Ridge's Art Cover Contest
West Ridge Elementary School is hosting its annual Family Science Night on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 6 pm – 8pm. The theme of the event is Going Green. In anticipation of this exciting night we are inviting all students to enter the West Ridge’s Art Cover Contest for a chance to see their artwork on the Family Science Night Program Book and on posters throughout the school.

Six Flags Great America Read to Succeed Program
West Ridge Elementary School is participating in the Six Flags Great America Read to Succeed Program for students in grades K – 6. Read to Succeed is a free educational program sponsored by Six Flags to inspire kids in grades K through 6 to engage in recreational reading. Students who complete six hours of recreational, non-school-related reading are eligible to earn a free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags theme park.
TumbleBooks-Online Collection of Books
TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks – animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.
Make a difference by running for West Ridge's Local School Council
All parents and community members who want to strengthen West Ridge Elementary School and help boost student achievement are encouraged to run for the Local School Council (LSC). LSC members are elected by parents and community residents in an election that takes place every two years. The 2012 elections will take place at all elementary schools from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. on April 18.
West Ridge Elementary School Middle School Students are Reading for Rewards!
West Ridge Elementary School is proud to announce the December results of the Ticket to Reading Rewards program for students in grades six through eight. The Ticket to Reading Rewards program aspires to motivate students to read outside the classroom and help students set college as their educational goals. The Ticket to Reading Rewards program was started in 2002 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation in partnership with Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education.
West Ridge Elementary School Students Are Reading with the BOOK IT! program
Students in grades K - 5 are participating in the BOOK IT! program. The BOOK IT! program provides students with the opportunity to earn Reading Award certificates by meeting monthly reading goals. The Reading Award Certificates can be redeemed at Pizza Hut where students receive a BOOK IT! Award and a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza.
2011 Promotion Policy for Students in Grades 3, 6 and 8
Attention Parents:

The Chicago Public Schools have outlined the promotion policy for students in grade 3, 6 and 8. Promotion decisions will be made during the last week of school. Promotion status and applicable summer school requirement(s) will be determined by the student’s District-Wide Assessment scores, followed by a review of the student’s academic performance and attendance record.
